Replit’s latest $400 million round crowns a long journey – turning years of skepticism into the latest AI platform milestone.
Replit’s rise from a $3 billion valuation to $9 billion in roughly 6 months may seem like something of an overnight success story, but it was anything but.
When the company announced a $400 million Series D led by Georgian Partners last week, it said the money would go toward expanding its AI “agent” capabilities, integrations, and enterprise features, work that would move the product from “help me code” to “help me ship.”
Backed by a heavyweight lineup, including media mogul Steven Bartlett’s Flight Fund, the vibe-coding startup is rapidly cementing itself as a top player in a fast-emerging category.
The vibe coding startup was founded in 2016 by Amjad Masad, Faris Masad, and Haya Odeh. It grew around a simple promise that anyone, anywhere, should be able to open a browser and build without the traditional setup pain.
Replit faced skepticism for years, until the market caught up
Over the years, the Replit team faced skepticism. The idea was easy to understand but hard to underwrite at scale, even as the founders kept iterating.
Eventually, AI changed the tone of those conversations. As vibe coding took off, Replit’s “instant-on” stopped looking like just another “browser toy”.
Replit leaned into the shift and positioned itself toward a broader audience than just traditional developers. In its post about the round, the company said that users from 85% of the Fortune 500 were building on Replit, and that it aims to reach $1 billion in run-rate revenue by the end of 2026.
The category’s pace also helped explain the repricing. Rival Lovable, the vibe coding startup founded by Swedish entrepreneurs Anton Osika and Fabian Hedinhad, just reached $400 million ARR after seeing roughly 200,000 projects per day.
The numbers, including Replit’s latest $9 billion milestone, have only continued to intensify the sense that the market is moving fast and rewarding its leaders.
